CityArts serves as a center for artistic creation and appreciation, featuring the works of local and regional artists as well as offering art classes for youth and adults in mediums such as painting, drawing, pottery, photography, glass blowing, jewelry making and much more. Payment Registraton:
• Register at CityArts in person, mail in the registration form with payment, fax in the registration form with VISA or MASTERCARD, phone in with Visa or MasterCard, or e-mail your registration form to cwaugh@wichita.gov.
• Checks should be made out to CityArts.
• Pre-registration is required the Thursday before class start date.

Registraton Confirmation:
• Keep a record of the date and time of the class in which you are enrolled.
• Notification will be given only if a class has been filled or cancelled.
• Classes are on a first come first served basis.
• CityArts will not hold registration without payment.

Refund Request will be granted strictly following City Policy:
• Prior to the Second Class of the session = 80% refund.
• Prior to the Third Class = 50% refund.
• After the Third Class of the session = NO refund.
• If a class is cancelled by CityArts, a FULL refund will be issued.
• Please allow 4-6 weeks to receive a refund.

ADULT CLASSES
CityArts programming offers an extensive range of art classes and a variety of skill levels for adults in many mediums. All programming is geared towards making the arts accessible to everyone. There is a variety of day and evening classes, to stimulate your imagination and creativity. Adult classes are for ages 16 and up unless listed otherwise.

College Credits
Ask your college & university Art Departments about earning credits by taking courses at CityArts. We have agreements with most area schools to offer college credits for classes at CityArts in the areas of Fiber Arts, Glassblowing, and Silversmithing. Talk first to your school, then call or come see us at CityArts.

ADULT FIBER

Layer it On – Hot and Wet 2
Create a vessel, collage, body art out of fused and layered mixed media. Age 16+
Material fee: $15 due 1st class to instructor

Dyeing - Devore and Discharge
Learn two different processes to create your own cloth. Discharge colors in a design on a tot bag and add different dye color back into your design. Then acid burnout your design in velvet creating the look of sculpted velvet. Age 16+

Adobe Photoshop
Learn Photoshop tool palette, restoration techniques, layering, filters, managing your workflow and shortcuts. Must have knowledge of Microsoft XP and know how to start programs, copy and move files. Age 16+

Basic Digital Photography

ADULT GLASS

Glass Blowing
CityArts is the only place in town to experience liquid glass, glory holes and blowpipes. Learn the basics of this unique art and produce forms in hot glass. Demonstrations will be given and instructions for more complex forms. Beginners must attend first class orientation. Age 16+ Glass fee is included in price.

Glass Casting
Advance your glassblowing skills by adding the glass casting experience to your repertoire. Learn what amazing things you can do with molten glass! Students will get to sand-cast glass, form glass by pulling, pushing, dripping, stretching and cutting, pour hot glass over other items such as metal or colored glass.

Mosaic Stained Glass

Bead on a Wire
Make your own unique jewelry with Beads & Wire! Students will learn basic wire working techniques, including: beaded wire chain, fancy wire wrapped beads, handmade clasps, ear wires and wire bracelets. Age 16+

CityArts works to help kids develop their inherent creativity. The youth programming focuses on providing students opportunities to develop and experience a diverse range of media. Classes and workshops are offered to help students stretch their skills and provoke their imaginations.

A multi-media exploratory experience. Drawing, painting, clay, glass and mixed media will be each week’s theme. Students will have access to tools and one-on-one instruction regarding techniques and skill development. Drawing for Youth
Students will work on improving drawing skills and developing their own interests. Fundamental introduction to all drawing media, week by week. Techniques, tools, principles and elements of art will be studied on an individual basis. Fun and casual, this class will enable any budding artist to grow and flourish.   • This after school program is for elementary age students to come for creative time together. CityArts staff/artists share their enthusiasm and expertise with kids.

Art Club II

  • Middle School (grades 6th-8th) Wednesdays 3:30 - 5:00PM
  • Only available to school groups of 10 or more

CITYARTS FIELD TRIPS

CityArts field trips are creative and fun; fit for any age!  Participants can explore their imaginations and learn creative skills in this multimedia arts facility.  The experience includes gallery tours, open studios and creating hands-on art projects.

Cost:    up to 25: $125 with 2 chaperones Maximum Participants: 60

Groups are divided into four groups for 30 minute activities:

  • CityArts Intro/Gallery/Open Studio/Classroom Talk
  • Tour of CityArts 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors plus gift shop and glassblowing studio
  • Gallery Talk/Art Appreciation for each show
  • Art Demonstration

Field trip art activities depend on size and age of the group, the current gallery exhibition, and the available instructor.

CityArts is in the Old Town Plaza, next to the Warren Old Town. Free parking is available in the Parking Garage on the west side of the plaza. Current construction allows parking.  There is handicapped parking on Mead Street as well as an elevator in the building.

Fieldtrips must be requested at least 2 weeks prior to start date. Upon approval of fieldtrip, the coordinator will be notified by phone and e-mail. For further questions, please contact Ruthie Spriggs, CityArts Education Coordinator, at RSpriggs@wichita.gov or by phone (316) 462-2787 x795.

*Please remember art work in the gallery is extremely fragile. The contact person for the fieldtrip will be held responsible for any broken or damaged items.*
