Summer Stars Concert: Students show off hand-made guitars
CityArts' first-ever Summer Stars concert on July 15 featured students in CityArts' "Build and Play Your Own Guitar" summer youth art class. The students, ages 8-14, built the guitars over the course of five weeks under the direction of CityArts instructor Kim Lister.
"Many of the students had never played a guitar before taking the class," Lister said. "I taught them simple techniques that helped them learn the songs as a group. They received a complete arts experience that encompassed both visual arts and music."
The "Build and Play Your Own Guitar" class is one of many youth art sessions offered at CityArts this summer. Parents still have the opportunity to register their children for weeklong or one-day art workshops that extend through the first week of August. Registration is available online or by phone at (316) 462-2787.
