Mike Fallier June 26, 2009 - July 27, 2009 Mike Fallier, a native Kansan, has painted all his life. His father James R. Fallier AWS is a nationally recognized artist and has been a huge influence on Mike’s career. As a water colorist, Mike’s style evolved and developed. His subjects were mainly traditional landscapes, wildlife, Native American and southwest scenes. During his travels and adventures Mike learned in workshops and through simple observation. A short stint as an award-winning billboard painter helped Mike develop his skill as a sign painter and muralist. Currently Mike paints in acrylic with a more understated, contemporary style. This more experimental approach involves some collage and metal-leaf, sand, salt, etc. His subject matter includes figure studies, urban street scenes, landscapes and some music themes. Mike has been very busy during the last few months and will be featuring new pieces which have not been shown before. |

The Journey is the Destination But the Journal is the Goal Friday, June 26, 2009 - Tuesday, July 28, 2009 Nathan Buhr is a self-proclaimed 'Budget Jet-Setter.' He fell in love with traveling while attending the 2nd grade in Paris, where his family lived for six months. While still attending college, a friend suggested that he might have some family they could stay with in Europe... and off they went. Since graduating with an Art degree emphasizing Photography from Bethel College, Buhr has been splitting his time between Wichita and and the world, with the only constants being himself and his camera. The Journey is the Destination but the Journal is the Goal is a collection of photographs taken during the past 2½ years, over the course of four continents, ending with six months in Small-College-Town, Poland (somewhere between Warsaw and Berlin). So often on trips abroad people shuffle from one land mark to another without really finding the culture in between. In this collection Buhr is suggesting that just wondering around is the best way to actually get a feel for the places you go and to let them change you The difference between travel shots and this collection is that vacation slide shows are filled with “stuff” instead of experience. Viewing the depiction of the “stuff” that makes up a trip without seeing the trip itself is like reading the climatic middle pages of a novel without knowing anything else about the story. In essence, since you miss all the important stuff, what you read tells you nothing, no matter how pretty it is. This collection explores exploration. More specifically, it depicts the way in which one is changed by the intentional interruption of usual cultural influences, and how the exploratory experience fills the sensory vacuum left by that interruption. People know that after a journey, they're different. Buhr's collection deals with the fact that when we set out to see the world, the world changes how we see; it broadens our horizons, gives us a crash course in problem solving, and through the independence of setting out alone, it ultimately unites us....
Blank Page might best be described as a meeting of the minds, with the expressed purpose of providing an open forum for all media, performance included. It is a dream given a home; a fantasy being realized through the acts, ideas, and time of a motivated network of creative individuals; a gallery with the soul of a community center, providing a youth-friendly open forum for all static and dynamic arts that encourages experimentation and learning. Here the opportunity is given to get one's work up on the walls, get feed back, and come back again to see the possibilities of self-expression through the work of others. Blank Page is on a mission to create an open dialogue between artists who are established, those who are outsiders, and those who aren't sure where they stand. Currently Blank Page has in residence painters, writers, photographers, drawers, mixed media artists, musicians, and comedians. |

I'm going to have a photography show sometime in the next 3 or 4 months as part of Final Friday in Wichita, and I want you to participate. The show will be called "Anonymous" and will feature as many digital photos as I can reasonably show on 8 monitors. No photographer will be identified, hence the name. There is no theme for this show, anything goes. I hope to encourage the entry of lots of bizarre stuff.
If you are interested in participating, please send me up to 5 photos, sized to 1200 pixels high and no wider than 1920 pixels side, if possible, in jpg format, no more than 500kb in file size, if possible. Send them to me at: bruce@brucewardphotos.com
I reserve the right to use any or all of the photos you submit and of course, to reject any or all. If you submit a photo to me for this show, you are deemed to give me the right to use the photo in the show and in any reasonable manner to promote the show, either before or after the show. You must own all rights to any photo submitted. You will retain the copyright to any photo submitted. |

TWO SOLO EXHIBITIONS IN CONVERSATION – LINDA K. ROBINSON "Destination - Horizon" June 26, - July 24, 2009 Center Gallery Director, Linda K. Robinson, shows her work in two solo exhibitions in Wichita: “Destination” at Center Gallery and “Horizon” at Jones Gallery. Robinson's work speaks about the connection between art and life, and the interesting aspects of opposition. She will be exhibiting a contrast of large-scale and small-scale minimalist landscape and seascape images of the horizon line, as well as photographs taken along while traveling. She explores the correlation between the destination and the experience. Through aesthetic symbolism she explores the intermittent blurriness and clarity of the destination with the continued search for the ideal horizon. The act of getting to that place through photographing the travel renders the experience to be the destination. She is interested in the psychological implications of the unknown horizon: the dichotomy of the realm of vastness and the prospect of the future. |

Fisch Haus Studios is a multi-disciplinary art facility, located in the Commerce St. Art District, currently accommodating five full-time local artists as well as a steady stream of artists and musicians, both regional and international. The artist cooperative was founded in 1990, and since 1993, has operated out of a three story warehouse that contains studio and gallery space, a full wood and metal shop and a graphic design studio. The Fisch Haus produces several large-scale shows annually, and hosts numerous community art events, ranging from visiting artist exhibitions and performances, to lectures, classes, benefits, readings, and music festivals throughout the rest of the year; most all of which are offered free of charge and are open to all ages. In 2004, Fisch Haus Studios formed a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation under Fisch Bowl, Inc., in order to bring Wichita a wider variety of cultural events, while still continuing the Fisch Haus founders’ tradition of excellence. Current members of the collaborative are Patrick Duegaw, Eric Schmidt, Elizabeth Stevenson, Jamie Tabor and Kent Williams. |

“The Beautiful Confusion” Dustin Parker’s Art Exhibit to Open at Watermark
"The Beautiful Confusion,” an art exhibit of mixed media works by Dustin Parker will be on display from May 27th through July 29th at Watermark Books & Café, 4701 E. Douglas. The opening reception for the show will be held on Final Friday, May 29th from 6:00—8:00 p.m., with a gallery talk at 7:00 p.m.
Dustin Parker has always been an artist. He says that he was born to create and destroy. As an infant, a box of crayons ignited his passion for creating art and that fire continues to burn in his veins. As a child, he drew robots and dinosaurs on his spelling tests and illustrated his own comic books. As an adult, Parker is an accomplished painter and digital artist. Parker earns his bread and butter as a graphic designer and illustrator. He calls Wichita, KS his home.
Since 2000, Parker has participated in over 60 group exhibitions and 8 solo exhibitions throughout the United States, Canada, and Japan. Parker's work has been featured in numerous online and printed publications including, Logo lounge, Look Look, Head Magazine, Blanket Magazine, Moloko Plus, Women's Focus, The Wichita Eagle, Cru-A, F5, and Proteus Mag. |
