2008 Season
Church Basement Ladies
April 10 - June 8, 2008
We're only one of three dinner theatres in the country to do this hit musical comedy! It has been playing at the Plymouth Theatre in Minneapolis for the last 122 weeks! CHURCH BASEMENT LADIES is universal. These “steel magnolias” of the church exist in every faith and every organization where solid and dedicated behind-the-scenes women work tirelessly to keep stomachs full and coffee brewing for every important event from weddings to funerals to “pot luck” suppers. Complete with twelve songs from “Closer To Heaven” (In The Church Basement), to “The Mother of the Bride”, audiences will recognize and enjoy these characters. From the elderly matriarch of the kitchen, to the young bride in training, they stave off potential disasters and keep the Pastor on due course, while thoroughly enjoying (and tolerating) each other as we see the church year unfold from beneath the House of God. Church Basement Ladies is perfect entertainment for the entire family, for friends, and for groups. Good clean laughs, memorable and hysterical characters, wonderful clever music, and nostalgia. This is most certainly true! Performances are Thursday through Sunday evenings with four select Thursday matinees on Apr. 17, May 1, May 15 and May 29.
Breaking Up is Hard to Do
June 12 - July 27, 2008
Set at a Catskills resort in 1960, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do is the sweetly comic story of two friends from Brooklyn in search of good times and romance over one wild Labor Day weekend. The score showcases 19 Neil Sedaka classics, including "Where the Boys Are," "Sweet Sixteen," "Calendar Girl," and, of course, the chart-topping title song. Performances are Thursday through Sunday evenings with three select Thursday matinees on Jun. 19, Jul. 10, Jul. 17.
Caught in the Net by Ray Conney
July 31 - September 14, 2008
In this sequel to last year's Run For Your Wife, Caught In The Net, the bigamist taxi driver John Smith still keeping his two families in different parts of the city, both happy and blissfully unaware of each other. However, his teenage children, a girl from one family and a boy from the other, have met on the Internet and are anxious to meet in person since they have so much in common: surname and taxi driving dad! The situation spirals out of control as John juggles outrageously with the truth. Performances are Thursday through Sunday evenings with three select Thursday matinees on Aug. 7, Aug. 21 and Sept. 4.

2008 Season
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
June 4-8, 2008
Book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Based on the Roman comedies of Plautus
The raucous comedies of Roman playwright Plautus were written two hundred years before the birth of Christ, but are still being performed today. This Tony Award winning romp takes the familiar characters – wily slave, henpecked husband, domineering wife, lovesick youth, arrogant warrior – and creates non-stop musical comedy hilarity. The witty Sondheim score tell us immediately what to expect – "Comedy Tonight!"
(Rated PG-13 for bawdy humor and humorously risqué dancing. Est. running time, 2 hr. 20 min.)
My Fair Lady
June 18 - 22, 2008
Book and Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner
Music by Frederick Loewe
Based on the play "Pygmalion" by George Bernard Shaw
There are many great musical plays –- and then there is My Fair Lady! Often cited as the most perfect musical show ever created, this is an elegant and literate Cinderella story, boasting the wit and wisdom of George Bernard Shaw seamlessly wedded to a lilting score by Lerner and Loewe. "I Could Have Danced All Night," "On the Street Where You Live," and "I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face" are only a few of the incandescent tunes.
(Rated G; suitable for all audiences 5 and older. Est. running time, 2 hr. 50 min.)
Big River
July 2-6, 2008
Music and Lyrics by Roger Miller
Book by William Hauptman
Adapted from the novel by Mark Twain
Country-Western songwriter Roger Miller created his one and only Broadway score for this show, and justifiably won a Tony Award for his efforts. The colorful journey of Huck Finn and the runaway slave Jim bursts with humor, thrilling adventure, and poignant insight into American history. A story of friendship and redemption, the toe-tapping score includes "Oh, Muddy Water," "River in the Rain," "Free at Last," and "Waitin’ for the Light to Shine."
(Rated PG for mature themes, racially sensitive story lines. Est. running time, 2 hr. 20 min.)
All Shook Up
July 16-20, 2008
Inspired by and featuring the songs of Elvis Presley
Book by Joe DiPietro
Suggested by Shakespeare’s romantic comedies
What happens when you take elements of "A Midsummer Night’s Dream," "Twelfth Night," and "As You Like It," re-locate the action to the American Midwest of the 1950s, and then put it all into a blender with the Elvis Presley songbook? You get a fun-filled, brand-new Broadway musical with lots of energy, plenty of laughs, and some great tunes, including "Are You Lonesome Tonight?," "Jailhouse Rock," and "I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You."
(Rated PG for romantic innuendos. Est. running time, 2 hr. 10 min.)
Les Miserables
August 6-10, 2008
By Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo
Music by Claude-Michel Schönberg
Lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer
At long last, Music Theatre of Wichita has the privilege of tackling this monumental work. Epic in its scope and rich in its humanity, this towering achievement of the musical theatre is a thrilling and deeply moving work. From the streets and taverns, to the cultivated gardens, through the workshops and sewers, to the students’ barricade, this panorama of human emotion brings to brilliant life Victor Hugo’s timeless message of compassion and hope.
(Rated PG for mature themes, dramatic violence, strong language. Est. running time, 2 hr. 50 min.)

Through A Glass Productions Presents: AIR
Saturday, May 31 - 7:00pm
General Admission Tickets $8 At The Door
Director: Jeremy Osbern
"AIR" is the first modern musical. It follows three stories of people who feel out of place in the world, and their longing to find a connection with someone else.
It breaks stereotypes - a middle aged African American sings to a new love in a country western bar, a young goth girl sings a 50s style ballad as she wanders the streets with a broken heart, and a punk croons a modern doo wop at a punk rock show.
Featuring all orginal music, "AIR" is a drama, a romantic comedy, and a musical, produced entirely by filmakers living in and around Kansas City.
There will be a question & answer session after the screening.
