Arts Council Names 2008 - Art Awards
Eleven Wichita individuals, cultural organizations and businesses are being recognized for their contributions to the arts. The honors have been awarded since 1969 to those who have made major creative achievements or significant contributions to cultural growth and development in the Wichita area.
“These awards focus attention on the importance of the arts in our community,” said Dr. Sharon Mallory, chair of the board of directors of The Arts Council, “to the enhanced quality of life for all citizens and to the significant economic impact of the arts for the area.”
The awards will be presented at a gala dinner on Nov. 6 culminating two days of activities highlighting the vibrant arts community in Wichita. Robert Lynch, executive director for the Americans for the Arts is the keynote speaker.
“In addition to recognizing local achievements in the arts, The Arts Council is expanding its advocacy and education work through these events,” remarked Susan Arnold, chair of the annual Art Awards event.
